Bodil Jane

Bodil Jane (Amsterdam, 1990) is an illustrator and artist from the Netherlands but currently living in Copenhagen. She makes commissioned illustrations for magazines, (cook) books and other print work. Besides 2D illustration she is interested in the many ways that illustration can be part of a product or a 3D project.

She knows how to combine illustration with product design and interior accessories. In the past she created a collection of porcelain tableware with her illustrations on it, silk-screen printed canvas bags and a laser cut bra made out of felt (this bra was used in Robin de Puy’s shoot for Prestage #3). She loves to design patterns and wallpaper.

To create an image she works with many different materials such as ink, water colour, pencils, crayons and collage. The starting point of her work is always constructed by hand. Bodil Jane’s work shows the contrast between realism and surrealism, figurative and abstract, romance and darkness. Her work explores personal themes and a self created universe.

Currently Bodil Jane gets inspired by old photographs that she finds in antique shops, ceramic animals, different kinds of fabrics, found pieces of paper, fifties magazines, kaleidoscopes, embroidery, yellowed science books with drawings of fishes and shells, knitted vegetables and body parts, fairy tales, clumsy self made books and album covers, mexican braids, stamps, vintage jewelry, cubistic still life paintings and furniture.

Bodil is represented by PUP Amsterdam.
