VIERI BY BIBI V/D VELDEN

Dutch jewellery designer Bibi van der Velden designed a Haute Joallerie collection in collaboration with panache Swiss jewellery house Vieri. A delicious fairylike-forest lunch we had at Bibi’s studio, White Space, to celebrate the launch of this amazing collaboration named after the world famous Shakespeareans play ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Each piece out of the collection tells its very own story. All is inspired by both sides of nature: the warm light sight of nature against the dark and more edgy side of it. For the warm and light side of nature there is an extensive use of deep emerald greens and cream coloured baroque pearls, which are interwoven with branches of 18 carat rose gold wherein small animals find there hidden comfort among the leaves. For the dark and more edgy side of nature Bibi designed delicate movable cobwebs existing out of 18 carat white gold, set with brown and shimmering white diamonds. All is  fairylike, but with an edgy elegance, a modern twist and an extraordinary rich feel. Details are sublime as beautiful ring-galleries and tiny creatures hidden in almost every stunning piece.

Guya Merkle, head of Vieri, asked Bibi to design a unique collection. Right from the start there was an incredible synergy between Guya and Bibi; they share the same beliefs and values about the origins of heritage of materials. Bibi is the ambassador of ‘Goed Goud’: an organization, part of ‘Solidardad’, dedicated to gold winning under good conditions for both humans and the environment. Vieri is one of the few jewellery houses is Swiss, which work with sustainable gold. It wasn’t the reason why Bibi and Vieri collaborated, but this match made it all even more special.

The ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ created by Bibi van der Velden for Vieri is a mouth dropping collection which takes you to another dimension. A dimension of beautiful fairies, forests greener as you can ever imagine, dark starry skied nights and hidden treasure under the biggest full moon.

LAB111

LAB111

Tucked away in Amsterdam’s old-west we found hidden hotspot LAB111. A place where the young and elder creative meet up to dine in a relaxed, laid-back environment. From the outside you’ll easily pass this restaurant, but that’s what makes it even cooler. LAB111 brings us seasonal food in a Mediterranean French style, which is fingerlicking tasty. Apart from the good food, the look and feel of the restaurant are modern and clean, but without being overstyled and with a funny twist as supermarket wallpapered walls.

MAZZO

Mazzo by Prestage

A few days ago we went to Mazzo – it was cold, snowy and we just needed some comfy Italian food. Mazzo is located in the Jordaan, the neighborhood in Amsterdam that is known for its cosy cafés and restaurants. It was a thursday evening and the moment we stepped through their big massive front door, we immediately felt the comfort and friendly atmosphere.

Mazzo is a spacey restaurant, but due to all those people who also choose to have dinner here tonight, it feels like an intimate place. A friendly waiter showed us our table and before we could blink our eyes, our table was provided with some delicious bread (with olive oil, just like the Italians do it), red wine and a bottle water. We ordered two antipasti misto for five people (hungry as some wild horses) and it was really good! Vegetables, olives, sausages, cheese, bruchetta’s and some salad. We literally attackted the antipasti, and the best had yet to come. Some pasta’s and pizza’s made us food lovers happy: gamba’s, home made pasta, truffles and of course mozzarella were all over the place. Last but not least, we couldn’t resist a desert. We heard the ‘Torta Della Nonna’ is just perfect, and we couldn’t agree more!

With uncomfortable full bellies but being really satisfied we went home. If you are looking for a cosy place where they serve good, authentic, Italian food, Mazzo is the place to be!
