Wear your face – portraits of masculinity
Dutch photographer Barrie Hullegie is one of the 45 photographers and artists from around the world to pay creative tribute to men and their variety of male features in the book Wear Your Face. Other participating photographers include Erwin Wurm, Art Streiber, Frederike Helwig, Rankin, Carl Kleiner, Erwin Olaf and Michel Comte.

With touching, powerful, at times disturbing, and always overwhelmingly beautiful images, the book opens the debate on what ‘Wear your Face’ means.

Hullegie: “I consider this project a case study —an investigation of masculinity and identity. During the process of shooting the models I discovered that Wear Your Face is essentially about self-confidence. An intriguing topic to try and capture in photographs.” The models in the book are men across age, race and gender norms. From celebrities like Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro and Ryan Gosling to unknown models. Barrie Hullegie portrayed both professional models and ‘normal’ men. “Their beauty is unpolished and very genuine —a perfect combination of minor imperfections and asymmetries.”

Author of Wear Your Face is Olaf Reys. The book is on sale via publisher seltmann+söhne. With the purchase you support UNICEF.
